INTRODUCTION

Under the general direction of the Dean, the Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs (ADFA) provides visionary leadership to advance the mission of the UConn School of Nursing (SON). The overall purpose of this position is to direct, support and develop SON faculty. The ADFA serves as a member of the School’s leadership team and participates in the development, implementation, and evaluation of goals and objectives for the SON consistent with the University’s and School’s missions and policies, serves as an advocate for faculty, colleagues, and other interested parties that promote faculty and student success, retention, and graduation, and facilitates the collection of data on which decisions are made. The ADFA collaborates with the Senior Associate Dean for Research & Scholarship (SADRS) to advance faculty scholarship and innovation and the Associate Deans (ADs) for Undergraduate and Graduate Academic Affairs. The incumbent will have an outstanding record of professional accomplishments commensurate with appointment at the rank of Associate Professor, with the opportunity for tenure at hire.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collaborates with the Dean, ADs for Undergraduate and Graduate Academic Affairs, and SADRS, to advance the strategic plan of the School of Nursing.
  • Implements a shared vision of leadership at the SON.
  • In consultation with the Dean and ADs for Undergraduate and Graduate Academic Affairs coordinates SON process for policy/procedure approval in the SON.
  • Coordinates yearly evaluation of the SON Strategic Plan.
  • Provides annual review of all faculty in consultation with dean, SADRS, and ADs for Undergraduate and Graduate Academic Affairs.
  • In consultation with the Dean, manages the day-to-day operations of the SON.
  • Maintains current knowledge of university organizational policies and procedures related to students and faculty to assure protocols are followed; serves as a principal source of information regarding the interpretation and application of these policies and regulations.
  • Ensures faculty development and career advancement, leading processes and initiatives supporting the SON faculty. In coordination with the Director of Teaching and Learning provides a culture of scholarship within the SON that fosters the highest level of achievements, encourages originality and innovation, supports faculty scholarship, and enriches the student learning experience.
  • Develops and leads a faculty mentorship program.
  • In conjunction with the SADRS, fosters collaborative and interdisciplinary teaching and research scholarship with colleagues in the academic and clinical setting.
  • Ensures that appropriate strategies and policies are in place to enable the successful recruitment, retention, and development of faculty excellence. Shares responsibility for the academic administration regarding decision making for academic appointments and faculty services.
  • Participates in processes related to faculty counseling, faculty grievance, and appeals related to the SON operations.
  • Promotes linkages and engagement among the faculty within the SON, across the University, and with external organizations. This includes encouragement of faculty to engage in inter-professional opportunities across the University and externally with other organizations.
  • Collaborates with the Recruitment and Selection Committee.
  • Works with appropriate University officials and faculty to facilitate satisfactory solutions to student issues and problems.
  • Maintains an active program of research and/or scholarship and engages in research and/or scholarly projects in conjunction with other academic or professional colleagues.
  • May teach selected courses in area of expertise.
  • Participates in scholarly activities, faculty committees, school-wide programs and events, and professional services as required of members of the University faculty community.
  • Serve as designee representing the Dean as requested.
  • Completes other assignments as requested by the Dean.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Doctoral degree (Ph.D., EdD, or equivalent) in Nursing.
  2. Current Connecticut RN license (valid at date of hire).
  3. 3-5 years of relevant work experience in higher education.
  4. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and interact productively with faculty, staff, and students.
  5. Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  6. Demonstrated area of scholarship.
  7. Extremely high level of motivation, independence, leadership, and responsibility.
  8. Excellent academic record and demonstrated scholarly ability.
  9. Demonstrated writing and research ability.
  10. Excellent teaching evaluations.
  11. Candidates should be eligible for tenure at the rank of Associate Professor.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Demonstrated excellence as a progressive/participative leader who provides creative and innovative alternatives to complex matters facing an organization.
  2. Demonstrated conflict resolution skills to handle complex and volatile situations that arise.
  3. Demonstrated knowledge and adherence to federal and state laws regarding employees and students (i.e., FERPA and labor laws), and versed in related University policies and procedures.
  4. Experience managing employees in a unionized setting.
  5. Candidates should be eligible for tenure at the rank of full professor.

APPOINTMENT TERMS

This is a full-time, twelve-month management-exempt appointment. The successful candidate will be considered for a 9-month, tenured, academic appointment at the rank of Associate or Full Professor commensurate with training and experience in the School of Nursing.  Applicants must meet University requirements for appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Full Professor with tenure.

INTRODUCTION

The University of Connecticut, School of Nursing is seeking applications to fill two full-time, 9-month, non-tenure-track Clinical Instructor positions at our Storrs campus. Under the direction of the Director for Pre-licensure Programs, these clinical faculty members are responsible for teaching in an academic setting, with a focus on undergraduate teaching in the following areas: didactic, clinical, simulation, or lab instruction. Faculty members are additionally responsible for: advising, supervising pre-licensure students in clinical work, apprising each student of his or her clinical performance on a regular basis, conducting evaluations of individual student’s clinical performance via impromptu meetings and planned evaluation conferences, evaluating student’s written work, and participating in campus laboratory teaching experiences. Clinical Instructors act as liaisons to clinical agencies, sharing clinical expectations and course syllabi with relevant agency staff, and addressing and initiating action when required for student/agency issues that arise. Clinical Instructors are expected to participate in faculty and assigned committee meetings when these meetings do not conflict with planned teaching.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS  

  • Master’s degree in nursing.  
  • Current Connecticut RN license (valid as of the date of hire).  
  • Three to five years of clinical experience.  
  • Three or more years of experience with didactic teaching of undergraduate students in both didactic and clinical settings.  
  • Experience evaluating student performance in clinical training settings.  
  • Experience developing effective working relationships with hospitals, clinics, and other community partners.  
  • Completion of required health indicators (MMR titers, TB status, Hepatitis B, and others as required by clinical agencies) and CPR certification at the time of employment.  
  • Excellent communication skills and interpersonal relationship strategies.  

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS  

  • Certified Nurse Educator (CNE) credentials.  
  • Three or more years of experience working in medical/surgical, obstetrics, or mental health as an RN.  
  • Experience managing and directing “group” clinical training for students in baccalaureate nursing programs.  
  • Experience working with students in an accelerated nursing entry program.  
  • Previous classroom teaching experience in an institution of higher education.  
  • Experience with a wide range of educational strategies, including virtual and in-person simulation.  
  • Current experience with direct patient care in healthcare institutions and/or community settings.  
  • Experience with telehealth technologies.  

APPOINTMENT TERMS  

This is a 9-month, non-tenure-track position subject to annual review. Individuals may attain eligibility for multi-year contracts after the successful completion of a probationary year and five (5) subsequent one-year appointments. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The primary appointment campus appointment for successful candidates will be the Storrs campus, expecting that candidates will routinely travel to clinical placement sites and occasionally travel to UConn’s other regional campuses.

INTRODUCTION

The School’s Biobehavioral Laboratory provides a wet lab and resources to support behavioral research.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Earned doctorate in nursing or doctorate in a related field with a Master’s degree in nursing. 
  • Demonstrated active program of scholarship and research through research publications and funding; evidence of and potential for extramural funding.  
  • Experience teaching in an institution of higher education with documented positive student evaluations.

APPOINTMENT TERMS 

This is a 9-month tenure/tenure-track faculty appointment initially subject to annual reappointment reviews. INTRODUCTION

Under the direction of the Director for Pre-licensure Programs, clinical faculty members are responsible for: teaching undergraduate students, advising, supervising pre-licensure students in clinical work, apprising each student of his or her clinical performance on a regular basis, conducting evaluations of individual student’s clinical performance via impromptu meetings and planned evaluation conferences, evaluating student’s written work, and participating in campus laboratory teaching experiences.   5. Previous classroom teaching experience in an institution of higher education.
  6. Experience with a wide range of educational strategies, including virtual and in-person simulation.
  7. Current experience with direct patient care in healthcare institutions and/or community settings.
  8. Experience with telehealth technologies.

APPOINTMENT TERMS 

This is a 9-month, non-tenure-track position subject to annual review. Individuals may attain eligibility for multi-year contracts after the successful completion of a probationary year and five (5) subsequent one-year appointments. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The primary appointment campus appointment for successful candidates will be determined during the hiring process with the expectation that candidates will routinely travel to clinical placement sites and occasionally travel to UConn’s other regional campuses.

Adjunct Clinical Faculty

The University of Connecticut is seeking applications for adjunct clinical faculty positions, with expertise in teaching fundamentals, behavioral health, maternal/newborn, child health, and/or advanced medical/surgical nursing.
