After obtaining her medical degree at the University of Guyana and practicing medicine in South America and the Caribbean, she became particularly interested in public health and health equity. This led to pursuing a master’s degree in public health at Southern Connecticut State University during which time she conducted community-based opioid research and completed her master’s thesis on predictors of opioid prescribing practices. After graduating, she continued to focus on community-based research with nonprofit organizations and various academic institutions.
