Assistant Clinical Professor of Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing

Haley Meier, DNP, APRN, PMHNP-BC is an Assistant Clinical Professor at the University of Connecticut School of Nursing. Dr. Meier is a board-certified psychiatric-mental health nurse practitioner with over a decade of experience within inpatient, outpatient, and intensive outpatient psychiatric settings in multiple hospitals across the state. Her clinical work spans across diverse populations but holds a strong focus on young adults and trauma-informed care.

A proud UConn alumna, Dr. Meier is passionate about guiding future nurses through the complexities of psychiatric nursing. Dr. Meier earned her Doctor of Nursing Practice from Fairfield University, where her capstone project focused on reducing stigma around depression among college students. She brings to her teaching a strong emphasis on critical thinking, therapeutic communication, cultural humility, and emotional intelligence. Her educational approach is grounded in inclusivity, student engagement, and real-world application of evidence-based mental health practices.

Prior to joining UConn faculty, Dr. Meier served as a psychiatric clinical instructor, ran psychiatric nursing simulation sessions and was a graduate preceptor at Yale University, Quinnipiac University, and Fairfield University. She developed a structured psychiatric clinical checklist used at Yale Psychiatric Hospital, which improved nursing students’ confidence and preparedness in psychiatric rotations. Dr. Meier continues to practice at a local community hospital within the Young Adult IOP program.
