Family Nurse Practioner (FNP)



Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) graduates are prepared as advance practice nurses to assess, diagnose, monitor, treat and coordinate care of individuals across the lifespan with common acute and chronic conditions within the context of family and community in primary care settings. The focus of the specialty is on the delivery of primary care to the individual within the context of the family and community including health promotion, disease prevention, and disease management activities to support healthy lives. The core competencies emphasize teaching/coaching, consultation and evidence based practice. Graduates of this concentration are prepared for eligibility to apply for the FNP Primary Care certification examination prepared by an approved national organization as accepted by the Board of Registration in Nursing and to apply to practice in the expanded role in Connecticut or other states based on regulatory guidelines.


Neonatal Nurse Practitioner is accepting applications for Spring 2018, deadline to apply is November 15, 2017. Applications for Fall 2018 for Adult-Gero Primary Care Nurse Practitioner (AGPCNP), Adult-Gero Acute Care (AGACNP), Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) and Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP) open on September 15, 2017. Application deadline is January 15, 2018 for Adult-Gero Primary Care Nurse Practitioner (AGPCNP), Adult-Gero Acute Care (AGACNP), and Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP). The application deadline for Neonatal Nurse Practitioner is July 15, 2018.
