2014 Winning Photo
Pictured is nursing student Claire Francis ’14 (middle), connecting with two children from Johannesburg Boys & Girls Club.
“This image was taken in late November at the Johannesburg Boys and Girls Club, where we volunteered during our trip there. We spent the day with the children, teaching soccer, helping them with homework, and working in their garden. The experience was extremely influential during our time there. Seeing the positive impact this club had on the community and in the lives of the children, truly inspired the sixteen of us. By the end of the semester we decided to setup a fund by the UCONN Cape Town study abroad program to initiate the founding process for a Boys and Girls Club branch in Cape Town.”
