“After graduating, I started work in the PICU [pediatric intensive care unit] at Connecticut Children’s Medical Center.
The UConn Honors Program allowed me to complete research as an undergrad. The honors program was a huge part of my experience at UConn!”

Jennifer Song ’11 BS

The purpose of the Honors Program is to encourage and support the beginning development of scholarship in undergraduate nursing students.

University of Connecticut’s Honors Program invites talented and motivated rising sophomores and rising juniors to apply and participate. A minimum 3.4 GPA is required. Honor students conduct a research study while working closely with their honors advisor. This experience provides them with an opportunity to critically examine a phenomenon of interest to them which is important to nursing and healthcare.

Actively participating in the research process not only enhances students’ nursing practice, but also lays the foundation for future graduate studies. The honors students usually disseminate their findings through such mechanisms as professional presentations and manuscript publication.

The Honors Program sponsors a number of events and opportunities throughout the academic year to broaden students’ undergraduate experience.
